Turning Interest Into Action
The mission of Cherishing Life Youth Transformation Services is to provide higher education preparation, life skills development and nutritional support to youth and young adults. Cherishing Life Youth Transformation Services (CHL) was founded in 2016 by Shyretta Hudnall, to assist underserved students in middle & high school, and who participate in athletics with transitioning into higher education institutions, while applying and successfully securing funding streams to pay college tuition. The inspiration to create the organization, came from her experiences of guiding her nephew, Arealous Hughes, through scholarship searches and application assistance and witnessing students stay afterschool to participate in sports, with no food to eat for hours.
During the initial implementation of some of CHL’s programming, the need to provide services to young adults and families became apparent. So, Cherishing Life began providing “Food for Thought” workshops that teach life skills such as budgeting, saving, and housekeeping to young adults aging out of foster care and those living in transitional housing.
